Day 1 in the City
Hello World! Today was my first day in D.C, and I had an exciting first day in the city. One of my roommates and I decided to venture out this afternoon to find the location of the place where she would be interning, and it was quite an experience. We had to use the metro and found it to be a unique experience all on its own. There were several people begging for money that would often try to approach us or others, so we had to be cautious to avoid them for our safety. When we finally made it on the metro, we were super proud of our navigation skills, but little did we know what we would experience next. It was a ummm… moment for sure. So, you may be wondering what happened, and I am sure most of you have guessed it by now. We missed the stop we needed to get off on! So, we quickly decided to get off at the very next stop and google maps the way to the location. It was then that google maps decided to take us to a farmer’s market instead of where we needed to be, LOL. Nevertheless, we found our way to the location she would be interning at and were greeted by more people begging for money and sleeping in front of where she will be working. So, we quickly decided to leave. While trying to map out the closest metro, my roommate’s phone died! I am so glad I was with her. So, with my phone still working, we made it back to where we needed to be. Later on, in the day, we went out again with another one of my roommates. To help keep the story simple, I will refer to her as roommate number 2. So, when trying to navigate to roommate number 2’s internship we all were using the GPS and ended up walking straight around an entire block instead of turning to find her internship. Silly maps! However, we all made it back safely and had a great evening. Tomorrow will be a big day for all of us who are starting internships. Scripture states, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, NIV). Beginning an internship can be nerve-racking, but we must follow the Lord’s command and understand that God will be with us for the whole process. Have a blessed day!
